Colleen was house supervisor for nine
years at Buena Vista Regional Medical
Center in Iowa, and worked previously as
an emergency room, intensive care and
coronary care registered nurse. She earned
her undergraduate degree at the University of
Iowa, and her master of science in nursing at
Clarkson College in Omaha, Neb.
A Eugene native and the mother of two
grown children, Colleen enjoys travel, reading,
painting and stained glass.

a physician assistant in
gastroenterology. She
comes to PeaceHealth
after three years with
Oregon Medical
Group, where she was a physician assistant in
gastroenterology.
Michelle earned an undergraduate degree at
Humboldt State University and completed her
master of health sciences degree and physician
assistant certifcation in 2008 at Duke University.
She was previously an emergency medical
technician at the K’IMA:W Medical Center in
Hooper, Calif. She has also worked as a CPR
instructor and volunteer frefghter. She enjoys
hiking and watching and playing a variety of
sports.

SERENA BLACK, MD
joined PeaceHealth
Medical Group in 2011
after completing her
residency at Children’s
Hospital & Research
Center in Oakland, Calif.,
where she was also chief
resident.
Before medical school, Dr. Black spent a few
years in clinical research in Philadelphia. She
enjoyed the patient interaction so much that it
inspired her to go to medical school. She chose
pediatric medicine because of the important
relationships pediatricians build with patients
and their families.
When Dr. Black is not caring for patients in
the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her
husband and their young daughter. She loves
traveling, reading and cooking. She also likes
to spend time outdoors and is excited about
all the beautiful places Lane County offers for
hiking and other outdoor pursuits.

Providing 24-hour emergency care is one of the many important services Cottage
Grove Community Hospital & Clinics (CGCH) provides to residents of Cottage
Grove and the surrounding southern Lane County communities.
The Emergency Department at CGCH recently added a new physician,
Joseph “Patrick” McMahon, MD. Dr. McMahon’s background includes being a
former member of the Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy’s elite aerobatic fying team.
Dr. McMahon provided medical care for the team from 1998 to 2001 while
serving as a naval fight surgeon. He completed an undergraduate degree at
Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., and his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of
the Health Sciences in Maryland.
Dr. McMahon joins an outstanding team of physicians and nurses committed to providing high-quality
health care for their local community. An avid outdoorsman, Dr. McMahon, along with his wife and
children, enjoys exploring all that Oregon has to offer.
In addition to a 24-hour Emergency Department, CGCH has 14 beds for patients who need inpatient
medical care. Imaging, laboratory and physical therapy services are all located within the critical-access
hospital building, along with a primary care clinic that includes internal medicine, family medicine and
pediatric medicine services.
